Willett Distillery is a family-owned bourbon producer in Bardstown, Kentucky, often referred to as the “Bourbon Capital of the World.” The distillery was founded in 1936 by Thompson Willett, just three years after Prohibition ended, on family land that had been tied to bourbon-making for generations. The Willett family lineage in whiskey stretches back to the 1800s, with multiple ancestors serving as master distillers before the family established its own distillery.

Over the decades, Willett became known for producing small-batch, high-quality bourbons, many of which developed cult followings among collectors. In the 1970s and 1980s, the business shifted due to industry changes, at one point halting bourbon production and operating primarily as an independent bottler under the name Kentucky Bourbon Distillers. The family preserved its heritage through these years, carefully curating sourced whiskies until they were able to return to full-scale distilling.

In 2012, Willett restarted production on-site, building new stills and aging warehouses, and reclaiming its place as a true craft distiller. Today, the distillery is run by the Kulsveen family, descendants of the original founders, who have emphasized tradition, integrity, and innovation. The brand is recognized for iconic releases such as the Willett Family Estate single barrels and the Willett Pot Still Reserve, packaged in its distinctive pot still-shaped bottle.
