About Courvoisier

Courvoisier is one of the world’s most celebrated cognac houses, with a history dating back to 1809 when Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois established a wine and spirits business in the Paris suburb of Bercy. By 1828, the company had moved to Jarnac, in the heart of the Cognac region, where it remains today. Over the decades, Courvoisier built a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship and became known as the “Cognac of Napoleon” after the French emperor reportedly visited the cellars and took barrels of Courvoisier with him into exile.

The brand produces its cognacs exclusively from grapes grown in the Cognac AOC, using a blend of eaux-de-vie from the four top crus: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, and Fins Bois. Distillation takes place in traditional copper pot stills, and aging is carried out in French oak barrels, allowing the eaux-de-vie to develop complexity, depth, and balance.

Courvoisier is recognized for its refined, approachable style that balances fruit, floral notes, and gentle spice, making it a favorite for both sipping and mixology. Today, it remains one of the “big four” cognac producers, maintaining its legacy of elegance and innovation while honoring over two centuries of heritage.
